Carbon Procurement Unit (CPU)
is established under the framework of GTZ International
Services, an extended arm of GTZ (German Technical Cooperation)
under cooperation with Indo German Export Promotion Foundation.
Carbon Procurement Unit is established to provide a favourable
market platform between the Indian and German carbon market
players.
Kyoto Protocol’s project based market mechanisms
are conceived imperatively to combat global warming. Companies
/ Installations in Annex I countries, influence emission
trading as an economic route for meeting their emission
reduction obligations.
Kyoto protocol sets out, Annex I countries to cut GHG
emission reduction by 5.2 % in the year 2012 and base
year of consideration is 1990. European Union on the whole
(EU 25) has target for 8 % GHG emission reduction and
the commitment is shared with the member states through
national climate protection goals. Germany has committed
for 21% of greenhouse gas emissions reduction during the
same period with same base year. Federal Government of
Germany has taken proactive stance, with regards Kyoto
Protocol Project Mechanisms which lead to substantial
credits procurement from developing nations by the 1900
installations covered under EU ETS in Germany. GTZ IS - CPU, established in Indian Sub Continent facilitates
transparent emission trading process between potential
emission credit sellers and buyers.
