Climate Change Effects

November 2nd, 2011

Here are the facts that have been incurred as a result of climate change. This fact is taken from the Climate Change Kit that is part of Supreme Master Ching Hai’s Speech at the COP16 climate change conference in Cancun Mexico, 18 Dasember 2010. For more information you can visit the site SupremeMaster TV or download directly via the same site. Climate change and global warming is a phenomenon that inevitably we must face. But it’s not too late to save our earth. Perform simple things ranging from saving energy and minimizing the use of vehicles as well as protecting the environment from waste minimization beef consumption is also a good suggestion, although difficult to do, bring yourself to tofu and tempeh, because two of these foods can help reduce the amount of carbon emissions already exceeds the threshold. The world produces CO2 emissions of more than 30 billion tons every year, not including non-CO2 emissions such as methane gas, SO2, NO, as well as Freon.

Consider the following facts, hopefully move our hearts to do little things that can save the world. » Read more: Climate Change Effects

Three Threats of Climate Change Due to Illness

October 25th, 2011

Research recently said that global warming may affect health. A variety of emerging diseases, mostly caused by microbes, bacteria, and algae. Scientists have estimated would increase the death rate due to heat waves, natural disasters, and malaria.

Some scientists are funded by The Ocean and Human Health Initiative of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will identify the risk of disease due to global warming. The results are as follows.

Seafood Contamination by Toxic Algae
Red algae that cause dead zones in the ocean is growing rapidly in line with global warming, especially in North America. This was disclosed by Stephanie Moore of NOAA. Algae Alexandrium catenella which produces toxins that can contaminate food from the sea and lead to paralysis – even death, although rare – in humans.

By calculating the water temperature and an increase in global temperatures, Moore and colleagues at the University of Washington, describes how the algae can thrive. “The season bloom of toxic algae grew longer and the amount of algae that bloom each season was increased,” said Moore. “Now, the algae bloom season for two months, but in years to come, bloom period will increase to three months,” he added. » Read more: Three Threats of Climate Change Due to Illness

To get around the Climate Change Impacts of Water Availability

October 13th, 2011

Clean water crisis due to climate change increasingly felt, especially in urban communities. It is time we do a mass movement to save water and use water efficiently.
Climate change is something that is difficult to avoid the impact of various facets of life. Extreme impacts of climate change is the increase of temperature as well as the seasons shift. Climate change is no longer solely the discourse, but we can already feel its effects, such as floods, tidal waves, and droughts. Our coastal cities are the most vulnerable regions to climate change impacts. Across Indonesia, there were 60 flood-prone city and there are 30 cities prone to tsunamis. Departing from these facts, it is important to set up mitigation efforts and adaptation to the impacts of Climate Change (Joessair Lubis, “Caring for the Environment, Spatial Care”, 2011).

The issue of clean water crisis as one of the impacts of climate change has long been touted. However, the portrait of the bleak condition of our water alone. In relative terms, with increasing human population, water supply is reduced due to the growing need for water. Until the later will inevitably occur “war struggle” to get these resources. UNDP in 2006 had revealed that the availability of raw water in the three provinces, namely Jakarta, Yogyakarta and East Java have entered a critical threshold. » Read more: To get around the Climate Change Impacts of Water Availability
