Climate Classification

Climate elements that show a clear pattern of diversity is the basis for the classification of climate. Elements of climate that is often used is the temperature and precipitation (precipitation). Generally very specific climate classification based on the intended use, eg for agriculture, aviation or marine. The classification of specific climate continue to use climate data elements as its foundation, but only select data elements related to climate and directly affects the activity or object in these areas.

Thornthwaite (1933) in Tjasyono (2004) states that the purpose of classification is to determine the division concise climate climate types in terms of elements that really active, especially precipitation and temperature. Other elements such as wind, sunlight, or a change in pressure there is the possibility of active ingredients for specific purposes.

Indonesia is a country that is predominately livelihood as farmers, and therefore classification of climate in Indonesia is often emphasized in its utilization in agricultural activities. In the tropics the air temperature rarely becomes a limiting factor in agricultural production activities, while the availability of water is the most decisive factor in agricultural activities, especially rice cultivation. » Read more: Climate Classification
